Biography
of Joe Weatherly
A graduate
of North Carolina Wesleyan College with a degree in English
and Philosophy, Joe attended Duke Divinity School after
graduating from Wesleyan. He pastored several small United
Methodist Churches for 4 years while in college and divinity
school. While pastoring a church in Durham, NC, Joe developed
a vision for congregational social outreach. He directed
the creation of a plan to provide daycare and counseling
services to residents of a low-income housing project near
the University through the church. He recruited a volunteer
staff from the University to provide these much-needed services.
This
was during the height of the Vietnam War and Joe felt compelled
to volunteer for service in the U.S. military. A member
of the United States Army, he served his country in the
Republic of South Vietnam.
Upon
separation from the military, Joe joined a major financial
services company. He retired from this company in 2000 after
28 years of service. During his tenure with this company,
he served a leadership role both in field organizations
and in the home office. Among his major achievements, he
was responsible for the creation and implementation of a
management identification and development strategy reporting
directly to the president. He also ran a sales division
of the Company covering four states, the District of Columbia
and the division's European operations. In this role, he
was responsible for an organization comprised of over 1000
employees with an annual operating budget of $15 million.
In March
of 2000, Joe retired and moved on to start Covenant Consultant
Group LLC, a consulting firm focused on helping organizations
create vision, engage in strategic thinking with practical
support in tactical implementation. He was also led to return
to seminary to complete his theological education. In 2002,
Tom Lutz, Mark Sherren and Joe Weatherly decided to join
forces to enhance both the scope and impact of their efforts
to assist visionary leaders in creating plans to advance
their visions.
As with
Tom Lutz, the breadth and depth of Joe's experience especially
positions him to coach and support visionary leaders both
in the church and the business world.
Joe
and Sherry, his wife of 28 years, have 4 children and 3
grandchildren. They live in Charlotte, NC.
